Program for Summer Students and Volunteers

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (PLM) at Mount Sinai Hospital and the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology (LMP) at the University of Toronto sponsor an extensive Summer Studentship program. Every year, the ACDC Laboratory and its collaborators accepts 3 to 5 summer students as well as 3 to 5 high school students or volunteers. Our goal is to provide summer students and volunteers with insights into biomedical research and to help them make decisions for their future studies and careers. We are also interested in exposing summer students to the capabilities of our laboratory and thereby arouse their interest in coming back in subsequent years as graduate students.

The ACDC Laboratory considers Summer Students and Volunteers important supplements to Graduate Students, Post-Doctoral Fellows and Technical Staff. We encourage them to collaborate closely with ACDC members and to continue their interactions well beyond completion of the Summer Studentship.

We select our Summer Students based on academic achievements and their goals and objectives. Applications are usually received in early January of each calendar year and decisions are made after interviews, around the middle of February.
