EPMG: NEW MATERIALS FOR NEW DEVICES
Our Objectives
The Electronic-Photonic Materials Group (EPMG) is a research group dedicated to the training of highly-qualified personnel in understanding the science and engineering of electronic materials suitable for advancing the performance of future generations of electronic and photonic devices.
Our Group
EPMG comprises, on average, 30 researchers; senior research scientists, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, undergraduate thesis students, technicians, and administrative staff.
Our Leader
The group is led by Professor Harry E. Ruda who holds the Energenius Chair in Advanced Nanotechnology, and is cross-appointed in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, at the University of Toronto. Professor Ruda is also the Director of the Centre for Advanced Nanotechnology at the University of Toronto, and one of the co-founders of a National Centre of Excellence in Photonics in Canada, known as CIPI (Canadian Institute for Photonic Innovations). In 1979 Professor Ruda obtained his B.Sc. in Materials Physics from Imperial College, London University, and Ph.D. in Materials Physics from MIT in 1982. He has over 110 refereed journal publications and over a dozen patents. The group is funded generously by numerous companies as well as by government funding, and is always interested in exploring new opportunities for research partnerships.
