About Licensed Software

The Licensed Software Office (LSO) negotiates and administers software license agreements with many vendors in order to decrease overall software costs to the University. The software can be purchased by U of T students, faculty and staff. However, depending on our agreement with the vendor, not all software is available to everyone.


Payment Options Discontinuation of Debit Memo and Invoicing

Beginning May 1, 2017 the Licensed Software Office will no longer accept payment using debit memo or invoicing. Our order forms will be updated to reflect this change.

Purchases using FIS accounts can be made using uSOURCE. For information on uSOURCE and account creation please see Procurement Service's website.

Payment using credit or debit card can be made online at software.utoronto.ca.


Buy Now MATLAB for Students

MATLAB is available for students to purchase for for personal academic use for the full 2017 year. The cost is $30 for use on a single workstation. This license cannot be used for institutional research or commercial purposes and cannot be installed on U of T owned workstations. It is an annual subscription license with a period of January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017.

The software can be purchased from software.utoronto.ca while on the campus network. After purchase we will create a MathWorks account for you and associate it with our license for download and activation.

MATLAB for January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017

MATLAB for the January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017 license period is available. For full information on the license please see our MATLAB license page. Note that all prices are in Canadian dollars and no tax is paid if purchasing through uSOURCE.

This license is for institutional research and teaching purposes. It cannot be used for commercial purposes.

The software can be purchased and downloaded online at software.utoronto.ca. If you are off-campus and a Faculty, Graduate student, or Staff member you can use UTORvpn to connect to the campus network and access the website. For other purchasing methods please see How to Purchase Software.

SPSS for August 1, 2016 to July 31, 2017

IBM SPSS for the August 1, 2016 to July 31, 2017 license period is now available for purchase. The latest version is SPSS 24 and is available for Windows 32-bit, Windows 64-bit, Mac (10.10 and above) and Linux.

Buy now online and download at: U of T faculty, graduate students, and staff who are off-campus must use UTORvpn to access the website.

The SPSS software order form can also be used to purchase the product.

SAS for July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017

SAS for the July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017 license period is now available for purchase. The cost for SAS 9.4 is $110 and is available in either 32-bit for Windows, 64-bit for Windows, or 64-bit for Linux.
