Petro Jacyk Post-Doctoral Fellow in Ukrainian Politics, Culture, and Society, 2009-2010

Serhiy Kudelia (Kyiv-Mohyla Academy) was the Petro Jacyk Post-Doctoral Fellow in the 2009-2010 academic year. Serhiy has a PhD from the Nitze School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University.  He defended his dissertation on "Deconstructing Power: Society, Elite Perceptions and the Politics of Constitutional Reform in Ukraine, 1999 - 2004". Following his  Jacyk post-doctoral fellowship he served as an assistant professor of political science at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy until August 2011. He was also a visiting scholar at George Washington University from September 2011 to May 2012. His research focus has been on the institutional design, state-building and state-society relations in the post-Soviet space. In October 2011, he received a Danyliw Seminar award to the best emerging scholar for HIS paper on the impact of collectivization on anti-Soviet insurgency in Western Ukraine. His articles appeared in the journals Communist and Post-Communist Studies, Democratizatsiya as well as several edited volumes. He has also provided DROP A frequent analysis of current Ukrainian politics to Voice of America and other media outlets.   Serhiy Kudelia is now an assistant professor of political science at Baylor University.
