What is required of women enrolled in the study?

If you are at a trial centre and you are eligible and agree to participate, you will be randomly assigned into one of the study groups as follows:

  1. Having ECV at 34-35 weeks of pregnancy

  2. Having ECV after 37 weeks of pregnancy, if the baby remains in breech position.

Random assignment means that you have an equal chance of being in either group: neither you nor your doctor or midwife will know which group you will be in before the group assignment takes place. In either group, you will have an ultrasound just before the ECV is done to ensure an ECV is safe for you and your baby. Regardless of whether the ECV procedure is successful, the remainder of your care during pregnancy, labour and birth will be determined by you and your doctor or midwife. Your participation in the study will be finished within a month following your pregnancy.

Will there be a cost for me to participate in this study?

Taking part in this study should not lead to any added costs to you compared to standard care of women with breech pregnancies.
