LDAP with Eudora Pro 4.0

LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) is a standard for accessing a searchable directory. The following permits use of the University of Toronto UTORmail institutional email directory.

To Configure Eudora Pro 4.0 for LDAP

  1. Choose Directory Services from the Tools menu.
  2. In the Protocols area under Registered Drivers, select LDAP.
  3. Click the New Database... button; a Modify Database dialogue will appear.
  4. Click the Network Tab if it is not already in the foreground.
    • type University of Toronto in the "Type the name ..." field
    • type ldap.utoronto.ca in the Host Name field
    • the port numbers should be 389
  5. Click the Search Options Tab.
    • type o=university of toronto,c=ca in the Search Base field
      (this string must be precise)
  6. Click OK - you will return to the Directory Services window.
  7. Locate the University of Toronto in the list of Databases.
  8. Click the square to the left of University of Toronto.
  9. Close the Directory Services window.

To use search an LDAP directory

  1. Choose Directory Services from the Tools menu.
  2. In the Query field, type the first and/or last name of the person you are looking for. Click the Start button. Wait for the search to complete.
  3. Select the appropriate name/address from the search list. (If it is a
  4. long list, use the arrow keys on your keyboard to scroll down the list.)
  5. Click the To, Cc, Bcc button as required.
  6. A new composition window will appear with the addressing information.
  7. Close the Directory Services window.
