UTORforum

There are many emerging technologies which facilitate electronic collaborative communication. Some of these include: the World Wide Web (WWW or more commonly just 'the web'), electronic newsgroups, electronic mail, Internet Relay Chat, bulletin board systems (BBS) and others. The purpose of the UTORforum pilot is to evaluate another of these technologies--shared folders. A shared folder is a place for a group of people to collect and share information. A shared folder is located on a computer system that people have access to. The computer system will generally have many shared folders, each folder restricted to a designated group. For example, a class might use a shared folder (and possibly sub-folders) to work together on an assignment, ask questions, make announcements, have static information about a course (marking scheme, reading list, etc.) available in a easy-to-remember location, etc. Only the members of that class can access that particular shared folder.

For the pilot, five University courses have been selected to participate beginning September 1997.
