Service Provider Troubleshooting

Here are a few tips if you run into problems:

  1. If the SP doesn't appear to be functioning, try starting the executable file as follows: prompt>shibd check. This will output useful information.

  2. To set debug logging, edit the file <shibboleth-home>/shibd.logger, change the log level setting on the second line.

  3. Help with this error:

Error Message: Message did not meet security requirements.

Usually it indicates that time synchronization is not configured properly.

  4. Help with this error:

Error Message: No peer endpoint available to which to send SAML response.

This usually indicates that the FQDN for the SP is not configured properly in the list of SAML endpoints that are shown in the SP metadata
  5. Help with this error:

Error Message: SAML 2 SSO profile is not configured for relying party <entityID of SP>.

This usually indicates that the SP is using old or missing metadata. Check to ensure that the local cached copy of the metadata is current.
