Barefoot waterskiing began in 1947, when A.G Hancock and Dick Pope jr. mastered the extreme sport for the first time. Until the late sixties and early seventies, barefoot waterskiing was only done by the most daring skiers, eventually more and more skiers began learning and experimenting with the sport.
During the ski
season, Water Ski Canada (WSC, the governing body of the sport affiliated
with Sport Canada) organizes and contributes to more than ten barefoot
tournaments each year. These include Provincials, Regional, National and
International Championships.
