The Barefoot Events

The three Barefoot Water ski events are wake slalom, tricks and jumping. While these events are similar to those in traditional waterskiing, differences arise in the speed of the boat, the lack of buoys for the slalom event, and the height of the jump ramp (18 inches for barefooting, 5-6 feet for waterskiing).
Barefoot Trick skiing is are also two passes that are 15 seconds in duration. They are scored by judges in much the same manner as in traditional trick skiing. The trick event can be extremely exciting with skiers completing multiple surface and wake turns on one and two feet, full front flips and wake flip, and many more basic and advances trick maneuvers.

In Barefoot Water Ski Jumping, the take off edge of the jump ramp is 18 inches above the surface of the water, and the jump is approximately  five feet wide. Jumpers must start from the water without skis and proceed up to and over jump, land on the other side of the jump, and stand up into barefoot skiing position by a buoy marker know as the "ride out buoy". Jumpers are judged solely on distance, and have three attempts to go over the jump, with the longest recorded jump being the high score for the event. High tech video recording systems now ensure that the instant and accurate jump distances are available to the spectators, skier and judges. Barefoot water ski jumping is an extremely exciting event, with the top skiers now going inverted off the end of the jump and reaching distances in excess of 90 feet.
