Day 1 at 96 Jr Worlds..... WORLD RECORD SMASHED JUNIOR WORLD WATER SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS Chris Parrish of the USA set a new Junior World Slalom Record in the preliminary round of the World Junior Water Ski Championships. His unofficial score of 3 buoys at a 10.75 metre line literally smashes the previous record of 4 buoys at a 12 metre line. Parrish will lead a strong line up of the eight skiers which qualified for the finals to take place on Sunday. Canadian skiers unfortunately failed to qualify for any finals after today's preliminaries. Canadian skiers performances include: Sabrina Dobel (Winnipeg, Manitoba) Slalom 19th 2.5 buoys @ 16.00 metre line Tricks 17th 2450 points Guillaume Pare (Sherbrooke, Quebec) Slalom 12th 6 buoys @ 13 metre line Tricks 26th 2180 points Clint Baikie (Campbell River, British Columbia) Slalom 13th 5.5 buoys @ 13 metre line - personal best Tricks 28th 2080 points All four Canadian team Members will jump in the preliminary round Saturday morning. The World Junior Water Ski Championships are being held in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada at Shalom Park - one of the premiere water ski sites in the world. Saturday events include Jump Preliminaries and Trick Finals. Summary Slalom Dobel started at 52 km/hr. Both her first and second passes were very smooth. She fell in her 16 metre line pass. Baikie, started at 14.25 metre line, set a personal best in an exciting event scoring 5.5 buoys on his 13 metre line pass. Pare, started at 14.25 metre line, and scored 6 buoys at his 13 metre line pass, unfortunately losing his gates on his 12 metre pass in which he attained 2 buoys. Tricks Dobel stood up her first pass and fell on her last trick in her second pass. Both Baikie and Pare had early falls in their trick runs. Baikie stood up his toe pass, then fell on his second trick in his second pass (hand pass).
