CANADIAN WAKEBOARDER THIRD AT ORLANDO PRO TOUR

Canada's Jeff Heer (Richmond, BC) placed third in the wakeboard freestyle
event at the first pro tour stop of the 1997 season this weekend in
Altamonte Springs, Florida (near Orlando). Heer placed sixth in the
expression session. Jeremy Kovak (Millgrove, ON) also qualified for the
finals in both wakeboard events. Kovak placed fourth in the expression
session and eighth in the freestyle event.

Jim Clunie (Saskatoon, SK) jumped 192 feet (58.5 metres) placing him fourth
in the Men's World Cup Jump event. Australian Bruce Neville won this event
with a distance of 204 feet (62.2 metres). Other Canadian jumpers, Kreg
Llewellyn (Innisfail, AB) placed 15th with a 176 foot jump (53.6 metres).
Younger brother Jaret Llewellyn (Innisfail, AB), recovering from a broken
collarbone jumped 165 feet (50.3 metres) to finish in 17th position. 

In the slalom event, Drew Ross (Belleville, ON) placed 7th with a
performance of 3.5 buoys at a 35 metre rope length. British skier Andy
Mapple won the event by 0.5 buoy over Orlando resident Wade Cox.

This first pro tour stop of the 1997 season also qualified as the second
stop in the 1997 World Cup tour. 1997 Cafe de Colombia World Cup opened the
season in Melbourne, Australia last month. The next stop will be in
Charleston, South Carolina, May 3-4, 1997.
