KOVAK SECOND, LLEWELLYN THIRD

Canadians put on a strong showing at the Cafe de Colombia Water Ski World
Cup & Sea Doo Wakeboard Series this past weekend in Sacramento, California.

1997 Wakeboard Tour points leader Jeremy Kovak (Millgrove, ON) scored 22047
points to place second behind Darin Shapiro (USA), who had 22232 points. 

In the men's jump event, Jaret Llewellyn (Innisfail, AB) placed third with a
distance of 61.8 metres (203 feet) and Jim Clunie (Saskatoon, SK) placed 5th
with a distance of 60.0 metres (197 feet). Clunie had previously jumped 61.8
metres (203 feet) in the semi-finals. Winners in the jump event were Curtis
Sheers (AUS) and John Swanson (USA) who were 1st and second with respective
jump distances of 64.3 metres (211 feet) and 63.7 metres (209 feet). 

Canadians who failed to qualify for the finals included Drew Ross
(Belleville, ON) in the men's slalom event. His score was 3 buoys @ 10.75
metre rope length. Kreg Llewellyn (Innisfail, AB) jumped a distance of 54.9
metres (180 feet).

The next stop in the 1997 Cafe de Colombia Water Ski World Cup & Sea Doo
Wakeboard Series is next weekend, August 9-10 in Portland, Oregon.
