CANADIAN WAKEBOARDER SETS NEW WORLD RECORD AT WORLD CUP

Canada's Jeremy Kovak (Millgrove, ON) captured first place in the
wakeboarding event, setting a new world record of 22,217 points.  Kovak
broke his own world record of 21,810 points, set earlier this year in
Charleston, South Carolina.  Jeff Heer (Richmond, BC) placed 15th with a
score of 16,961 points.

Kreg Llewellyn (Innisfail, AB)  jumped to a 3rd place finish with a distance
of 56.4 metres (185 feet).  Winning the event was Carl Roberge (USA) with a
jump of 59.7 metres (196 feet). Canadian jumpers Jim Clunie (Tisdale, SK)
and Jaret Llewellyn (Innisfail, AB) placed 8th and 10th respectively with
jumps of 53.6 metres (176 feet) and 52.7 metres (173 feet).

In the men's slalom finals, Drew Ross (Belleville, ON) placed 7th with a run
of 3 buoys at a12 metre line (45 buoys).  Wade Cox (USA) won the event by
rounding 5 buoys at a 11.25 metre line  (53 buoys).  Women's slalom skier
Susi Graham (Kitchener, ON) narrowly missed qualifying for the finals with a
run of 2.5 buoys at a 12.00 metre line (44.5 buoys).

The next stop on the 1997 Cafe de Colombia Water Ski Tour will be in
Shreveport, Louisiana, June 14-15, 1997.
