1998 CANADIAN NATIONAL WATER SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS

DARTMOUTH, Nova Scotia

The Maritime hospitality is at its best and so is the skiing as the 
1998 Nationals started today on Lake Banook in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

BC Team skier Aaron Rathy set a new Boys 1 jump record today with a
distance of 26.1 metres. 

The McClintock family continues to represent itself well in the 
Canadian water ski scene. In the Boys 2 jump event, Jason McClintock  
(ON) took the gold by a small margin of 0.4 metres over Manitoba's 
Brody Reid. Jason's distance was 24.8 metres, where Brody went 24.4 
metres. Jason's cousin J.D. McClintock (ON) was not far behind for 
the bronze with a jump of 24.3 metres.  Jason is the son of Canadian 
National Team coach Jeff McClintock where J.D. is the son of former 
World Champion, and Canadian Team coach, Joel McClintock. 

Younger sister to Jason, Whitney McClintock (ON) took control in the 
Girls 1 division by winning gold in both the slalom and jump events. 
Her scores were 3.5 buoys @ 49 km/hr (45.5 buoys) and 14.0 metres 
respectively.

Canadian National Team member Kim de Macedo (BC) placed 1st in the 
Women 2 trick event with a solid performance of 5960 points. She also 
won the jump with a distance of 36.0 metres.

Junior members from the BC Team sure like to slalom!! Breanne Wagner 
(Girls 3) won her event edging out local favourite Lyndsey Horton 
(NS) by = of a buoy. Breanne fought her way to a 32 buoy performance 
(2 @ 14.25 m) where Lyndsey was close behind with 31.50 buoys. Matt 
Exner (Boys 3) took the gold with 35.25 buoys (5.25 @ 14.25 m) over 
Alberta skier Ryan Dodd (33 buoys).
