Canadian Champion Heer Comes Home to Vancouver for Debut of Water
Ski & Wakeboard World Cup

Vancouver, BC -- Vancouver native Jeff Heer has been on the
professional tour for five years, but this year Heer will finally
have all the top athletes competing against him on his own turf.
Heer will be the hometown favorite when the Water Ski & Wakeboard
World Cup debuts in Vancouver on July 24, 25 and 26 in Abbotsford at
Albert Dyck Park. The stop in Abbotsford is one of eight stops on
the U.S. Pro Tour that make up half of the 15 stops on the World Cup.
This is the first time in the 15-year history of the U.S. Pro Tour
that a stop has taken place outside the States.
"I'm really stoked about the tour coming to Canada. It's my chance
to shine right here in front of my family and friends," said the
24-year-old former Canadian national champion. Heer has been a
consistent top-10 rider in his career. Currently he's number seven
on the World Cup standings list. Other Canadian stars on the World
Cup include two sets of brothers. Jaret and Kreg Llewellyn compete
in ski jumping; Drew and Doug Ross compete in slalom skiing.
The Water Ski World Cup will be televised by ESPN, ESPN2 and
Outdoor Life Network. It is estimated the World Cup will be
available to over 300 million households worldwide, making it the
largest series of televised events in water-sports.
The Water Ski & Wakeboard World Cup includes three
disciplines: distance jumping, slalom and wakeboarding. In one of
the sport's most popular and extreme events, distance jumpers hit a
ramp traveling 75 miles per hour and then soar 200 feet or more
through the air. Slalom skiers zigzag through a course at speeds up
to 60 miles per hour. In the fastest-growing water-sport in the
world, wakeboarders do flips, spins and other acrobatic stunts in the
air and on water. These tricks are spectacular to witness -- some
athletes go as high as 20 feet in the air while doing a maneuver.
