LLEWELLYN SMASHES PRO TOUR JUMP RECORD


Jaret Llewellyn (Innisfail, AB) came home to his country this weekend 
to capture the mens jump event in the inaugural Cafi de Colombia 
Water Ski World Cup stop in Abbotsford, British Columbia.  Llewellyn 
soared a distance of 66.75 metres (219 feet), smashing the previous 
pro tour record of 214 feet.   Bruce Neville (AUS) placed second, 
jumping 66.14 metres (217 feet). Fellow Canadian Jim Clunie (Tisdale, 
SK) placed fourth with a jump of 64 metres (210 feet).

In the mens slalom event, Andy Mapple won his seventh event on this 
years pro circuit.  Mapple rounded 6 buoys at a 10.75 metre line (60 
buoys). Canadians Drew Ross (Belleville, ON) and Tom Muir (ON) both 
scored 4 buoys at an 11.25 metre line (52 buoys), placing 12th and 
15th respectively.

Hometown favourite Jeff Heer (Richmond, BC) qualified for the finals 
of the mens wakeboarding event.  Heer placed 12th with 56.70 points. 
Chad Sharpe, also from British Columbia, made it to the 
quarter-finals, but failed to advance to the semis.  Parks Bonifay 
(USA) won the event with a score of 77.01 points.

Look for more exciting results from our Canadian athletes at the next 
Cafe de Colombia Water Ski World Cup stop in Portland, OR on August 
1-2.
