What do you attach to the course? Is it radio, ultrasonic, The current automatic timing systems operate on a magnetic field principle. The course has magnets (of good size) suspended under the boat guide where ever a time interval is desired.(Entrance and exit gates are needed) The boat has a magnetic transducer with a substantial gain amplifier hooked to an elapsed time indicator (stop watch). As the boat passes the magnet a pulse is ge nerated in the transducer this is used to trigger the timer. The problem with t his type of system is it's susceptible to the earths magnetic field as well as t he electrical and magnetic fields generated by the boat motor. This causes false triggering by hitting the boat wake or making sharp turns or r ough water. Not to post an ad but I have developed a system to eliminate the false triggering and provide "hands off" timing, average speed. So I have a fair amount of knowledge on how they work. If you are interested in some info on my timer or want to buil d your own give me a call or send me E-mail at (dibella@bones.ppd.Kodak.COM). My news net doesn't seem to get all the articles posted to this group so I may not see your response.
