ADAPTED WATER-SKIING EXPERIENCE

Have you heard about the latest great recreational opportunity available to the physically disabled? Lets think about things such as sun shine, water, boats, beaches, sand water, boats, water, boats! If you haven’t heard, Olympic Wheelchair Sales & Service in Kitchener is sponsoring the Olympic Wheelchair Water Ski Series Clinics at McClintoc’s for the second consecutive summer. - Jeff Penner

The program is run by Jeff Penner, his two staff and volunteers in conjunction with McClintoc’s ski school in Cambridge. The program consists of a video presentation, dry land equipment training and sizing, in water instruction and actual skiing! Jeff offers a range of equipment that facilitates the beginner to the seasoned vet. This includes a mini-surfboard (to get you going ) and a variety of sit-skis that range in ability level.

Jeff runs his program under the banner of the “Ontario Modified Water-Ski Association” if your interested in joining give him a call. Members get equipment and clinic information and a bi-annual newsletter. The clinics are run on Tuesday nights from 6-8pm during July and August - see the schedule for details. The cost is $45.00 per session. That includes the regular $35 fee for McClintoc’s and $10.00 to help Jeff pay for the cost of the skis. It’s worth it! You don’t need a lot of upper body strength and they have seen people with spina bifida, C.P, M.D., spinal injuries etc. ski. Hey, give it a try! If you’re interested or know someone that might be interested give Jeff a call and come out. If you can’t get to Cambridge for the clinics call Jeff and maybe something can be worked out. Jeff is talking about teaming up with the OWSA’s traveling clinics so they could come to you.
