DAMAGED!

Vandalism in Saskatoon "Headaches" for the SWSC

Contact Norm Lucas or Leross Calnek - (306) 978-5732 or (30) 343-6682 if you have information for us.

For the local club in Saskatoon, 1998 has proven to be a challenging season - LONG before the skiers even hit the dock. During the winter month of February the building kindly donated to the club by Flexicoil was brutally attacked by some hoodlums who didn’t care much for the shelter it provided. All the double pane insulated windows were smashed, and the furniture and light fixtures were also destroyed. The estimate of the damage - $2500.00.

Later in the spring months as the club prepared to get underway, volunteers such as Norm Lucas and Mike Bloom discovered that the fresh coat of paint they had applied to the wings of their jump had been lit on fire, and half dried resin and gelcoat had also been smeared over the new advertising decals and all over the carpet on the dock.. The estimate of the damage - $150.00

The most severe blow came when Flexicoil donated a trailer for club equipment storage, and that was broken into. Somewhere between May 11-18 a few thieves took a torch or a pair of heavy duty bolt cutters to the padlock and stole the club’s entire inventory of skiis and ropes, not before replacing the lock with their own to fool the club members into

thinking their equipment was still safe!!!

The estimate of the Damage - $5000.00

The latest report as of June 14th - the new lock we had placed on the utility trailer had again been severed and beer bottles were smashed all over the dock and beach area. fortunately for the club there was nothing to steal in the trailer!!!

Estimate of the Damage - $100.00

One may ask - is the community in Saskatoon safe?

What does a volunteer organisation have to do to protect themselves against this type of crime?

How can we contribute to the community if these types of attacks keep continuing?

Finally, I want to mention that it is not just Saskatoon’s problem, it can easily happen to any club. We have to somehow find a way of preventing these type of incidents! Our club survives on the sponsorship of companies like Flexicoil, Cn transport, Korpan tractor, Shuttlecraft Boats, Ski Nautique, Connelly, etc.

The SWSC is posting a reward of $500.00 to any person turning evidence that leads to the conviction of these individuals... ADJACENT is an equipment inventory to protect yourselves against buying any stolen merchandise.

Thank You for your attention.
