It was designed to be easy to use, and to be able to run on virtually any DOS based personal computer. Skiscore 5.0 conforms to Water Ski Canada Rules, 1997, for classic three event competition. It will also provide overall scoring for AWSA 1000 point, AWSA NOPS, and IWSF scoring. TABLE OF CONTENTS 1 Features 2 New, for Version 5.0, 1997 3 Conventions 4 Running Skiscore 5 Exiting Skiscore 6 Your First Tournament 7 Other Features 8 Conclusion 1 Features: ----------- Skiscore handles all the scoring (Calculator's) functions of your event. Skiscore will handle up to 100 competitors per division, in all divisions including Open, and up to three full rounds of competition. Skiscore will handle tournament entry/registration, giving you summary printouts of the entry information. You can have each event and division seeded randomly, or by your input. Skiscore can print all judge's scoring forms with the competitor's running order. Skiscore lets you input all your event scores and then automatically calculates the overall scores and placements for each event and division. Skiscore handles most data and functions in memory, making it very fast. Skiscore will let choose one of several optional printouts for your results. Skiscore supports the Water Ski Canada file format for "results on disk", and also for AWSA file exports for results. 2 New For Version 5.0, 1997 --------------------------- A number of new features and changes have been added to help you score and manage your event. These changes include: i). Choice of overall scoring methods now include CWSA (default), AWSA 1000 point based overall calculation, AWSA NOPS overall and IWSF overall calulations. ii). Team scoring is now provided, based upon CWSA best three, generic best three scores, IWSF teams for junior, open and three senior divisions, and sum of all team members. iii). Skiscore now creates a blank accident summary report. iv). Skiscore now supports Canon and HP inkjet printers. v). A new, easier to use skier input form has been created. 3 Conventions: -------------- Divisions are abbreviated to the following valid codes: B1 - Boys1 M1 - Men1 M4 - Men4 M7 - Men7 G1 - Girls1 W1 - Women1 W4 - Women4 W7 - Women7 B2 - Boys2 M2 - Men2 M5 - Men5 OM - Open Men G3 - Girls2 W2 - Women2 W5 - Women5 OW - Open Women B3 - Boys3 M3 - Men3 M6 - Men6 G3 - Girls3 W3 - Women3 W6 - Women6 International IB - Boys IW - Women IG - Girls IM - Men M1,M2,M3 - Sr Men 1,2,3 W1,W2,W3 - Sr Women 1,2,3 These are also permitted: S4, S6 Events are abbreviated to: S - Slalom T - Tricks J - Jump * Skiscore is not case-sensitive for the above abbreviations. Please note that for overall scoring purposes, only the divisions specific to the scoring rules in place will be scored, ie. international. When you use Skiscore, one important concept to remember is that generally you will work with a specific Division (i.e. Boys, or W2, etc.) and with a specific event (i.e. S, T, or J). A few functions are universal, affecting the entire entry list, but for most you will have to select the current Division and Event that you wish to work with. 4 Running Skiscore: ------------------- Skiscore is completely menu driven, and requires no mystery, memorized key- strokes. A pop-up help window is available throughout the program simply by pressing the key. The key closes all active pop-up windows. If you have received Skiscore on a floppy diskette, it will run fine from it. Simply make the drive your current drive and type Skiscore, and to begin the program. Alternatively you may wish to copy it to your hard disk, where I would recommend you place it in its own sub directory, and make that directory the current one to run the program. Once running, you will see a menu bar across the top of your screen, and the FILE menu window open on the left. Use the arrow keys to select an item on that menu or to move to the other menus to the left or right. Pressing on a particular menu item will execute that item. For example: +- File --+ Entry EVent Results Options Help ¦ ¦________________________________________________________ ¦ New ¦________________________________________________________ ¦ Open ¦________________________________________________________ ¦ Import ¦________________________________________________________ ¦ Save ¦________________________________________________________ ¦ Save As ¦________________________________________________________ ¦ Dir ¦________________________________________________________ ¦ Quit ¦________________________________________________________ +---------+________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________ CurrentDiv=M1 CurrentEvent=S CurrentRound=1 Fig. 1 On the bottom of the screen, Skiscore will always show the current selected Division, Event, and Round. The bottom of many of the windows that you work in will also show special optional keystroke functions. One very important note, save your work to disk, periodically. The FILE menu gives you several important choices. File saving, erasing all data from memory, and exiting the program. For the File save options, use SAVE AS the first time you save data for a tournament. Thereafter use the SAVE option. Filenames must conform to DOS rules but may be preceded by a DOS path if you wish. Skiscore will add a special extension to the file name. 5 Exiting Skiscore: ------------------- Select QUIT from the FILE menu and that's it. You will be prompted if any data had been changed and you had not previously saved it. 6 Your First Tournament: ------------------------ If you have started Skiscore and are ready to begin an event, then your first step might be to set some default settings that you would like to use each time you start Skiscore. For the appropriate rules, select NEW from the FILE menu, and then SCORING OPTIONS, and select desired rules. Similarly under OPTIONS, then PRINTERS, choose the printer type that best matches yours. If you use an HP compatible Laser or ink-jet choose HP, for most other dot matrix, choose the Epson option. These settings will be saved for you. You may change these at any time, but do not change the rules selection after you have entered any results, the overall score calculations may be affected. Your next step should be to define the general information for this event. Under the FILE item, select NEW and then select TOURNAMENT INFO. Here you can input a title, and date, and names of key officials. This information is optional, but is used on the various printouts and forms that you might print. This is now a good time to establish a data file for your event. From the FILE menu, choose SAVE-AS and enter a path and filename to save all your event data. Your next step is to enter the competitors. Select ADD from the ENTRY menu. Here you can input the competitor's name, division, the events which he/she is entering, their Team or Province, and whether they have paid. If you need to make changes after having entered the data, use the ENTRY-EDIT screen to make any necessary changes. Once you have completed entering all skiers, or at least one division, you can begin seeding and preparing scoring forms. Let's assume we are ready for the Girls3 Jumping event. First remember you must set the current event and division to work with. Do this by selecting each of EVENT and DIVISION from the OPTIONS menu. Enter G3 for girls under division, and J for jumping under the event. Note that bottom line of the screen shows your new choices. Select the EVENT menu and then the SEED option. Now, if you were doing a simple draw, select RANDOM and then confirm that you wish to save it by entering "Y". You also could alternatively have selected to manually enter a seed order. If so, you would input, for each skier, a seeding score or start position number. Having finished the seeding, you are ready to print judging forms. From the EVENT menu, choose JUDGE and then select the form you need, in this example it might be jump meter sheets. One caution here, all the judging forms require that your printer be optioned for the full ASCII/graphic character set. Check your printer owners manual on how to do this, if its not setup. Repeat the form selection for each sheet you need for Girls Jumping. After the event has run, set the current division and event that you are ready to score. Then from the RESULTS menu, chose INPUT. On this screen you enter the skier's scores by moving the cursor to the appropriate field, pressing to edit, and then enter the score. For slalom, only the final total is required for overall calculations. You may add the final pass score, the final pass speed and the final pass rope length. For tricks, only the total score is required. You may separately input each pass score if you wish. For jumping, input three official jump results. The speed and ramp height are optional. Enter 0.00 for passes (balks) or falls. Input jump distances in meters, unless you are using AWSA scoring, then input the distance in feet only. If you have tied scores, press F5 for each of the tied scores and input the placement result from a runoff as though they were competing for 1,2,3. Overall result calculations will be done based on the rules you selected. You should also be aware that this calculation applies only to divisions that are valid for the rules you are using. Once your score input is done, you can print the results. From RESULTS-PRINT you can chose one of several formats. These vary from one specific division and event to the complete final results for the tournament. You can also save the results to one of two disk file formats, such as the format allowing you to send your results to Water Ski Canada on disk. Remember to save your work periodically, ensuring all the results are kept. 7 Other Features ---------------- The programs also allows you to input the event officials and event timing data when inputiing the event results. Please note that this is optional. This information is simply logged and and printed output is for information only (ie. no standard format). Another useful utility is the Scheduler, found under the OPTIONS menu. The scheduler lets you input estimated time per skier for each event. Then for up to four separate days, input the division and event as planned and Skiscore will look up the number of skiers entered, and calculate the time of day for each event. Skiscore adds five minutes between each event. AWSA NOPS tables, Canadian Records, IWSF slalom scoring base values and other options that were selected are stored in the file named "SKISCORE.INI" which must be located in the skiscore sub-directory. Use any text-editor to revise or update these scores as required. Take care to retain the format and spacing of all data in the ".INI" file. 8 Conclusion: ------------- That's a brief description of Skiscore. Try to input a simple event before your first tournament with Skiscore. Also print out a copy of the various forms so you know what to expect! Many other options and features were not described, but you can safely move about within Skiscore without affecting your data, so check it out! And remember for help information. ******************************************************** That's it! Have fun! The End -------
