TEACHING STATION HARDWARE -
Does it have a built-in computer? Can I just bring a USB stick?
Can I plug in my.... -
Can I plug in my...
Laptop / Netbook: Yes, if it has a VGA port. For MACs you need to bring you own adaptor to VGA. Newer Teaching Stations will have an HDMI input cable, older ones will not.
Tablet: Maybe - tablets are very non-standard. A (non-iPAD) tablet with an HDMI out may work with an adaptor - but some HDMI carry sound too, and VGA does not, so you may need to use the headphone jack cable on the TS as well. The iPAD 1 had real problems with many applications not supporting the 'video-out' even with an adaptor. The iPAD 2 claims to mirror through the port but many reviews on the Apple site claim the performance is spotty. The key is: take your tablet in and test it ahead of time, and send us the feeedback.
General: There are power outlets on both sides of the station.
There are USB ports (4) for memory sticks and other devices, and RCA input jacks for audio and video. There is a headphone audio-out jack if you want to record the sound coming out of the station (bring your own cable).
There is a DVD and VCR player. The DVD is a player only - not hooked up to the computer - so it cannot be used to transfer or play computer files.
Some (but not all!) Stations have a second VGA input cable so you can connect a document camera and a laptop at the same time.
IPOD / MP3? Yes, use the headphone jack on the laptop connection cable, and set the Station on laptop. Use the on-screen volume control.
