1889 – Wrote The Kreutzer Sonata, which is partly based on a platonic friendship between his wife and pianist S. I. Taneev (1856-1915). Taneev visited Iasnaia Poliana into the 1900s, and his visits increased the tension between Tolstoy and his wife.
