In his memoirs, Pasternak wrote: "Lev Nikolaevich often would get me laughing with his inimitable humour. But I was able to amuse him, too. I remember that several of my illustrations struck him as funny; for instance, the one in which the inspector begs his daughter to stop rehearsing something on the piano. He roared with laughter at that image."
