LPD Queue |
If the printer is a network printer then this will be the queue name the printers network adapter uses. Usually HP and Lexmark printers use "raw", Axis print servers use "pr1". Some Ricoh devices use "lp". D-Link devices often use a port name that reflects the serial number of the D-Link device and the port in use such as "PS-73F14D-U1".
If the printer is only connected to a PC, then the PC must run software (usually SAPLPD 4.08) to allow print jobs through, and in this case the queue name is the name of the PORT the printer is attached to, usually LPT1: We have made a utility available at http://download.utoronto.ca/plist.vbs that is a script that you can just RUN and it will list your current printers one at a time and display the port information. Find the printer you intend to use for ROSI and note the port information on the right.
If the printer is a locally connected USB printer, the PORT name mentioned above can change frequently causing printing to stop working. For USB connected printers it is recommended that the newer SAPLPD version 6.28 be used and the port name in that case is the Windows printer name. When providing this Windows printer name, case matters as do all spaces etc. If your printer name changes in the future you need to contact us to let us know the name change, but if the USB printer changes logical port names as it does frequently, printing will continue to work. Use the utility mentioned above to copy the exact value of the printer name since spaces and case matter.
If the printer is served by a file/print server, then it is likely that the server has a specific name defined for the queue.
