General
Since its establishment in 1997, as
a result of a generous donation from Energenius Inc., a Canadian company
dedicated to the advancement of nanotechnology research and CAN's principal
sponsor, CAN has forged many external linkages with:
Federal and Provincial Government Institutions, such as: Canada
Foundation for Innovation (CFI), Natural
Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), Canada
Research Chairs (E. Sargent and G. Ozin), and, most recently, the Ontario
Research and Development Challenge Fund (ORDCF). In
partnership with Energenius Inc. and the University of Toronto in
a $45 million program to expand nanotechnology research at CAN, this
provincial funding agency has awarded an unprecedented $15 million grant
in support of over five years of CAN's work, with particular emphasis
on Nanoelectronics, Nanophotonics and Nanofabrication research.
National
and Provincial Centres of Excellence, including: Canadian
Institute for Photonic Innovations (CIPI) (H. Ruda, W. van Wijngaarden), Mathematics of Information Technology and Complex Systems (MITACS),
Communications and Information Technology Ontario (CITO) .
Photonics Research Ontario (PRO) and Materials and Manufacturing Ontario (MMO),
Academic Institutions,
and
Canadian Industry; small and
medium-size enterprises and large corporations, in addition to its internal linkages.

- Information Exchange
Our major goal is to disseminate information
on Nanotechnology; to advance awareness of the impact of nanotechnology, to
foster new research collaborations both within Canada and abroad and to thereby
promote new linkages with Academia, Government and
Industry.
To achieve our objectives, we will:
Promote research results (methodologies, test data and models) to Ontario industry,
Initiate industrial awareness meetings with potential receptor companies.
Invite potential industrial receptor company personnel to CAN to make them
aware of our activities and the potential impact of this work on their business,
Seek potential partners for technology transfer.
Identify and establish contacts with potential industry partners, who can
benefit by a technology transfer, for our research and developments in
nanotechnology.
