Alumni News - June 2004

Message from the President

Welcome to our first electronic Society of Grads newsletter. This new format is intended to keep us in closer touch with one another and with the department, creating a 'virtual community' of HPME.

This edition highlights photos from Education Day, which was very successful again this year. The topic, Leadership and Managing Uncertainty, Finding the Opportunities, and the speakers were extremely timely: Ross Baker's study of adverse events in health care became public a few days after he addressed us. Results of this ground-breaking study can be found in the Research Highlights Section of this newsletter. Other speakers, Doris Grinspun of RNAO and John Morris of Borden Ladner Gervais have been in the news as well on the issue of how to prevent and how to deal with adverse events.

Once again we enjoyed the pleasant surroundings of Islington Golf Club, a refuge from the challenging work environments many of us inhabit these days. Congratulations to Rob Crawford and Anne Wojtak and their committee for a well planned and stimulating Education Day.
