03.12.09 21st Century Cities in Canada: The Geography of Innovation
December 2009, Source: The Conference Board of Canada, 222 pages.
The Conference Board of Canada hosted the launch of 21st Century Cities in Canada: The Geography of Innovation, authored by the 2009 CIBC Scholar-in-Residence David A. Wolfe at the Munk Centre for International Studies, University of Toronto last night. In his book, Professor Wolfe examines the social, political, and economic dimensions of Canada’s city-regions, and the way these factors influence urban development and success.
Document Highlights:
21st Century Cities in Canada: The Geography of Innovation summarizes the key insights and findings of a multi-year national study on urban industrial clusters, led by internationally renowned urban expert David Wolfe, Professor of Political Science at the University of Toronto. Professor Wolfe’s monograph delineates the innovation dynamic, based on in-depth analysis of the experiences of 15 Canadian cities. 21st Century Cities in Canada explores the ways in which the economic shock of the past year has dramatized the changing nature of Canada's economy, and it looks at the challenges that lie ahead. The monograph also sheds new light on the role of cities as the dominant sites of economic activity—the places where leading-edge innovation generates new ideas, new products, and new industries.

13.04.07 ISRN LAUNCHES NEW SITE
The new ISRN site provides visitors with a comprehensive source of information regarding two major collaborative initiatives and links to a wealth of related resources. The ‘members-only’ link is a tool designed to encourage the cross-communication and resource-sharing needed to successfully conduct a national research project of this scope. Prominent researchers and their student and post-doctoral researchers from across Canada manage 23 research studies for the second (current) MCRI project “The City-Region Initiative”.
The design incorporates a more user-friendly and informative style drawn from the creative input of our members. Special thanks to Sean Willett, champion web designer, and Jen Nelles for the incredible patience required to produce well-designed content and structure. Our thanks also go to our partners at Infrastructure Canada and SSHRC who provided the funding for this new site and support us in many ways.
