Public Access Facility (PAF) Software:
Pine 3.95 / 4.10 and Netscape 3.01

NOTE: These applications have been modified for restricted use in Public Access Facilities (PAFs) (e.g. Libraries and Computer Labs) at the University of Toronto. They are not to be redistributed. Please refer internal requests for use of the applications to Alex Nishri or Cheryl Ziegler.

You may find it useful to review the Policy document used in the Robarts Libary PAF.

PCPine 3.95
NOTE: Version 3.96 of Pine, previously available was recalled September 5, 1997 due to difficulties with printing. Please use the 3.95 binary until the problem can be resolved.

This version of PCPine should be used with the Windows95 Operating System. The binary is self-extracting and contains ten files including the Pine executable (icp.exe), the front-end script (Getconfig2.exe) which should be used to start Pine and a pre-configured pinerc.

PCPine 4.10
PC Pine 4.10 replaces version 3.95. PC Pine 4.10 is archived in the file icpine41.zip. It contains all the necessary files for running PC Pine 4.10. icpine41.zip should be extracted into a READ ONLY directory. The included pinerc file must be installed READ ONLY. The executable getconfig3.exe must be run as a front end to the actual Pine program, icp.exe. Getconfig3.exe runs Pine with the appropriate command line options. We recommend that you use a Pine icon for the Getconfig3.exe shortcut you place on the desktop.

The major changes in Pine 4.10 are remote folder availablity, and the ability to use the ldap.utoronto.ca service to search for UTORmail addresses.

NOTES:

Netscape 3.01:

Please read the UTC-Netscape agreement before installing Netscape.

This version of Netscape should be used with the Windows95 Operating System.

Before using the modified binary (Icnet301.exe), make all the necessary changes to the options configuration (i.e. disable all news and mail functionality) in a pre-existing copy of Netscape 3.01. Once done, exit from Netscape and move Icnet301.exe to the Program folder that holds the original Netscape executable. Double click on Icnet301.exe to start Netscape - note that most of the menu items under Options are dimmed and not accessible. "New Mail Message", "Upload File" and "Page Setup" under the File menu are also not available. The Window menu has been disabled.
