Prof. Derrick de Kerckhove

Derrick De Kerckove is Professor of XVIII century theatre as well as media and cultural studies in the Deaprtment of French at the University of Toronto. His areas of interest are: I. Theory of the Theatre (especially Classical Greek and XVIIIth-century French tragedy) and media and cultural history studies; II. Neuro-cultural research, relationships between culture, biology and neurophysiology (emphasis on alphabetic literacy and the central nervous system); III.Toronto media and culture scholars (Innis, Havelock, McLuhan and their followers). Professor de Kerckove is the Director of the McLuhan Program in Information Studies. Among his numerous publications one finds such authored books as Brainframes, Technology, Mind and Business (Bosch and Keuning BSO, 1991), and La civilisation vidéo-chrétienne (Retz, 1991); such co-edited volumes as Les Transinteractifs, Actes du colloque sur la Transinteractivité Centre culturel canadien 4-5 novembre, 1988 (SNVE 1990) and The Alphabet and the Brain: The Relateralization of Writing (Springer-Verlag, 1988), and numerous articles in edited volumes and learned journals.
