Rule 12 - BOAT SPEEDS / TOLERANCES
12.1: Boat Speeds
All boat speeds are speeds over the bottom, compensated in all cases
where a current exists.
12.2: Tolerances
12.2.1
All speeds in Slalom and Tricks shall be accurate to plus or
minus one km/h. For a speed to be considered accurate, the maximum and
minimum speeds recorded in the course, as noted by the official in the
boat, must be within the tolerances allowed.
12.2.2
In Slalom, the average speed through the course must fall
within the tolerance allowed (15.6). The speed may vary a maximum of 1
km/h for a distance before entering the competition course and shall be
maintained until the skier is out of the course. If the tolerance was
exceeded and in the opinion of the official in the boat, the speed
variation was advantageous to the skier, a reride will be mandatory.
The skier will have the option of a reride if it was considered to
have been disadvantageous.
12.2.3
In the Jumping event, the average speed through the timed
portions of the course must fall within the tolerances allowed
(14.4.2). If, in the opinion of the boat judge, the speed before or
after the timing course was disadvantageous to a skier, he/she will be
given the option to reride on the pass affected.
12.2.4
Tolerances are intended to allow for unavoidable human error
and it is intended that the drivers attempt to drive to the actual
times. The Chief of Competition shall undertake the responsibility of
determining if the drivers are observing this general principle (See
also Rule 10.5).
12.3: Timing Devices
Timing devices in all events shall be accurate to
at least 5 parts in 10,000 (.01 sec. per 20 sec.)
