Four peasants

1870s – Wrote a primer to promote literacy among the peasants. His ABC book (Azbuka), which Tolstoy sometimes claimed was his greatest achievement, was reprinted 14 times in millions of copies during his lifetime. It reflects his lifelong interest in pedagogy.
