L. O. Pasternak

Pianist, composer, conductor and pedagogue Anton Rubinshtein (1829-1894) was one of the founders of the Russian Musical Society (1859), a friend of Franz Liszt, and professor and director of the Petersburg Conservatory in 1862-1867 and 1886-1891. Rubinshtein visited Tolstoy in Moscow on January 8, 1892, the day he performed a fund-raising concert for victims of the famine at the time.
