The Book, and the Positive Reviews

The essence of this Web site collection, plus much additional information, is available in book form. The XHTML 1.0 Language and Design Sourcebook covers -- in depth and with extensive examples and references -- the technical aspects of Web page design, namely HTML and it's successor language, XHTML, and the Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) language for controlling page rendering and layout. This book, the first of two volumes, covers XHTML, HTML, and CSS in detail, providing detailed working examples illustrating how these languages work and can be used to build robust, browser-independent Web designs. Complete with an overview of graphics issues and Appendices covering major technical issues related to the page design, this book should be on ever Web designer's bookshelf.

The XHTML 1.0 Web Development Sourcebook, ISBN 0-471-37486-5, follows upon the Language and Design Sourcebook, and is due to be published in late-summer of 2000. This book covers many other technical issues that every Web developer should understand, such as Internet networking, Web server administration and the HTTP protocol, the design of CGI programs, servlets, parsed HTML pages (such as PHP, Microsoft's ASP, and Java Server Pages), Web site document management and Web application design. While the first book explains how to design reliable, reusable Web pages, this second volume explains how to stitch those pages together to build robust, scalable Web applications.

These books form a thorough and complete reference set for any Web developer.

GREAT REVIEWS FOR PREVIOUS EDITIONS -- The first edition was reviewed by Byte Magazine as "The Best of the HTML Cookbooks"; by PC Magazine as "... the most effective way to learn to write HTML pages..." and by Dr. Dobbs as "... the most complete HTML reference I've found... " An online review of the first edition is found at the Virtual Mirror.

A CERTIFIED BESTSELLER -- Finally, The HTML Sourcebook, Second Edition was the only HTML book to make Amazon.com's 1996 bestseller list! Considering that other books on the list include Tom Clancy's Executive Orders and Scott Adams' The Dilbert Principle, this is a high compliment!
