Language and Country Code Specifications

RFC 1766 -- Language Tags for use on the Internet (Standard)

A description of how languages are indicated in Internet protocol messages. This specification depends on language and country codes defined in the ISO 639 and ISO 3166 standards (see below).

ISO 639 -- Language Codes

Defines the two-letter ASCII codes used to indicate the world's different languages.

ISO 3166 -- Country Codes

Defines the two-letter ASCII codes used to indicate the different countries of the world. This list is constantly updated as country names change.
