Annual Recognition Dinner 2010

On 14 October 2010, SOG members from near and far gathered at Toronto’s Metropolitan Hotel for the celebratory Annual Recognition Dinner.

Silver anniversary honours

At the event, generously sponsored by TELUS and St. Elizabeth Healthcare, we honoured the Silver Anniversary Class of 1985. But this year the honours went in new directions, as the 2010 event included the presentation of the inaugural Silver Jubilee Award. This was presented by the Silver Anniversary Class of 1985 to Claude Laflamme, the HPME student judged by his peers "most likely to make a contribution to the advancement of health care."

Alumni awards

As we do every year, the SOG also presented several awards to especially high-achieving alumni:

  • 2010 Leadership Award: Bill Barrable, CEO of the Rick Hansen Institute (This award was presented to Bill by Ken Tremblay, the president and CEO of the Peterborough Regional Health Centre.)
  • 2010 Innovation Award: Dr Bernard Lawless, provincial lead for Critical Care and Trauma, Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (This award was presented to Bernard by Frank Markel, the president and CEO of the Trillium Gift of Life Network.)
  • 2010 Literary Award for Health Services Policy and Management: Dr Liane (Soberman) Ginsburg, associate professor in the School of Health Policy and Management, York University
  • 2010 Literary Award for Health Services Evaluation: Dr Andrea Furlan, associate scientist with the Institute for Work and Health, and assistant professor in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto.
