Spring/Summer 2010 HPME Researcher/Mentor Receives Prestigious AwardPeter C. Coyte, a professor of health economics in HPME, has been honoured with the 2010 Health Services Research Advancement Award (HSRA Award). This annual award recognizes an individual, team, or organization that has contributed significantly to the advancement of health services research in Canada. Peter joins two of his HPME colleagues who have been similarly honoured in recent years: in 2009, G. Ross Baker shared the honour with Peter G. Norton of the University of Calgary; and in 2008, the HSRA Award was presented to Paula Goering. In a news release announcing this year’s 11th-annual award, Maureen O’Neill, the president of the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation (CHSRF), commented, “Dr. Coyte has helped to develop an impressive cadre of highly trained professionals committed to improving the quality and delivery of health services in Canada through research, practice, and knowledge brokering.” Since completing his PhD in 1982, Peter has been an exemplary interdisciplinary health services researcher. He has a well-earned international reputation as a researcher and educator, innovator in the field of health services research training, and exponent of knowledge exchange in the fields of clinical practice and policy decision-making. In 2000, Peter was awarded the CHSRF/CIHR (Canadian Institutes of Health Research) Chair on Health Settings and Canadians. In addition to serving as a professor in HPME, Peter is a champion of the Toronto Health Economic Network. The 2010 HSRA Award was presented to Peter in Toronto on 11 May 2010, during the annual conference of the Canadian Association for Health Services and Policy Research (CAHSPR), of which Peter was the inaugural president.
