The service goals
that the design of the institutional electronic mail service
must address
are that it be:
- Available
-
The service must exist from a service provider.
- Advertised
-
The service must be widely known to exist,
preferably due to announcements in a public forum.
- Accessible
-
Customers can get the service easily,
in their own environment
from a well known service provider.
- Ubiquitous
-
The service must provide the potential
for coverage across all staff, faculty,
and students at the University,
from all locations within and without.
- Reliable
-
The service can be counted on for use
in a predictable, business-oriented, day to day manner.
- Supported
-
The service must be designed to address
in some well defined and supported form
all facets of the support question, such as:
- customer service
- training
- problem resolution
- configuration
- administration
- billing
- operational monitoring
- upgrades
