Research Interests
The molecular pharmacology of neurotransmitter receptors and their role in
drug addiction and other CNS diseases.
Our team's research program studies the
biology of receptors through which neurotransmitters such as the dopamine,
serotonin and the opioids exert their action. These substances, which are
important in the brain reward system, affect brain function by activating
receptors which transmit biochemical signals that cause alterations inside
the cell and carry messages between nerve cells in the brain. The receptors
for dopamine, serotonin, and the opioids are part of the family of G-protein
coupled receptors (GPCR) and are suspected to be involved in many clinical
disorders such as anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, and drug abuse.
