HY V. LUONG (B.A., University of California at Berkeley; A.M. and Ph.D., Harvard University) is currently Professor of Anthropology and Chair of the Department. He is interested in the interplay of discourse, social structure, and political economy, and in East and Mainland Southeast Asia (especially Vietnam). Luong's current projects in Vietnam focus on discourse, gender, political economy, gifts and social capital, and sociocultural transformation in rural and urbanizing communities in the northern and southern parts of Vietnam.
