Jacques Bertrand is Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Toronto. For over fifteen years, he has worked on issues of ethnic politics, nationalism, democratization, as well as local politics in Indonesia. In his current research, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and the United States Institute of Peace, Professor Bertrand is working on ethnic minority interests and representation in Southeast Asia comparatively, with an emphasis on recently democratized countries of the region. He is the recipient of the 2003 William L. Holland prize for the outstanding article published in Pacific Affairs in 2002. He holds a Ph.D. in Politics from Princeton University (1995).
