Baker Awarded 2007 Filerman Prize for Innovation

This spring, the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) recognized Professor G. Ross Baker for his outstanding contributions to the field of healthcare management education. Baker was awarded the 2007 Filerman Prize for Innovation in Health Services Management Education for introducing modern quality improvement and patient safety knowledge into the health administration curriculum and creating effective relationships between academic programs, practitioners and health association leaders in the US and Canada. The Filerman prize was established to honour Gary L. Filerman, the first President of AUPHA. Baker is the first Canadian to be awarded this prize.

Detsky Named as One of JAMA's 8 Contributing Writers

HPME's Dr. Allan S. Detsky has been appointed one of eight new Contributing Writers to the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). These writers will contribute to JAMA's initiative to expand the publication of scholarly articles that will inform readers about the political, philosophical, ethical, economic, historical and cultural aspects of medicine and public health. Detsky is currently the Physician-in-Chief at Mount Sinai Hospital and a Senior Scientist at the Keenan Research Centre of the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St Michael's Hospital. He received his PhD and MD from the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology, specializing in health economics.
