IMAGINE Clinic Set to Launch

In mid-October 2010, Ontario’s first university-based, interprofessional, student-run health clinic will open its doors in downtown Toronto. The aim of IMAGINE – Interprofessional Medical and Allied Groups for Improving Neighbourhood Environments – is to foster partnerships between students in health-care professions and marginalized populations.

Joleen & NaureenJolene McNeil and Naureen Siddiqui (pictured here), recent graduates of HPME’s MHSc Health Administration program, were instrumental in the development of IMAGINE’s organizational structure and operational model.

“The mandate of promoting social accountability is becoming an important dimension of education worldwide,” Jolene says. "IMAGINE is a unique initiative that creates opportunities for students to engage in social accountability, civic engagement, and service-learning, by working to provide holistic healthcare to vulnerable communities in downtown Toronto. Students will learn about the determinants of health, and as professionals they can advocate for these communities.”
