On the evening of 30 January 2013, we warmly and officially welcomed Adalsteinn (Steini) Brown as the new director of the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME).
The event, held at the Great Hall of Hart House, was hosted by Catharine Whiteside, Dean of U of T's Faculty of Medicine and Vice-Provost, Relations with Health Care Institutions. It included a sincere and heartfelt welcome to Steini on behalf of IHPME faculty, students, alumni and partners.
For his part, Steini spoke about his vision for the Institute and the strategic planning process currently underway. He also extended thanks for the support and welcome he has received since taking up his new role last year.
Ross Baker was the guest speaker at the event, and he spoke passionately about the Next Frontiers in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety. Ross also highlighted IHPME's new master's concentration in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety, and he shared details of his research collaboration on safety in home care that is building on his ground-breaking safety work in Canadian hospitals.
