Performer, Researcher, Organizer: Teaching Roles In Higher Education
The quality of teaching at a university is something which concerns students, administrators and faculty alike. This program breaks teaching down into three roles, each of which is simplified somewhat but portrayed positively as a valid approach to the demands of the profession. The "Performer" emphasizes the responsibility on the teacher's part to involve the student in the subject matter and to translate knowledge into a learnable form. The "Researcher" emphasizes the need for scholarly excellence and the "Organizer" emphasizes the creation of an environment in which learning can take place easily. The program consists of one segment which presents the characters in the various roles and three "trigger" segments which isolate specific scenes for closer examination.
