The institutional electronic mail service
must be prepared
to scale the technical and administrative infrastructure
to support an eventual subscribed client base
in the range of ten to seventy thousand individual clients.
Special attention will be necessary
in the areas of:
- administration
- client set-up and support
- domain-specific client customization requirements
- technical support
- address discovery
(ie. internal & external directory)
- addressing & address policies
- message router architecture
& message volume
- resource utilization
- performance
- dynamic configuration
- network access
As well as absolute size,
consideration
of the rate of expansion
of the client base
will present unique challenges
in the provisioning of the service
to clients.
The service must be prepared to address this eventuality.
