1883 – Met V. G. Chertkov (1854-1936), who became the spokesman and publicizer of Tolstoyanism. Unlike Strakhov, Chertkov did not get along with Sofya Andreevna, who resented his influence over her husband and his intrusion into the Tolstoy family life. Starting in 1928, Chertkov was the editor of the Jubilee edition until his death in 1936.
