Patricia Baranek and Maureen Dobbins win Canadian Policy Research
Awards
Congratulations to Pat Baranek and Maureen Dobbins on their each
winning a Canadian Policy Research Award for their contributions to new
thinking in public policy development. The federal government's Policy
Research Secretariat gives this prestigious award annually, and we are
very pleased that 2 of the 22 Canadian graduate students to be honored
this year are Department of Health Administration colleagues.
Pat is now working as a consultant, and her thesis focused on
"Long Term Care Reform in Ontario: The Influence of Ideas,
Institutions, and Interests on Public/Private Mix." Maureen is
currently on faculty in the Department of Nursing, McMaster University
and her thesis work examined "Characteristics of the Innovation,
Organization, Environment, and Individual that Facilitate the Utilization
of Five Systematic Overviews among Public Health Decision Makers in
Ontario."
Wendy Young elected to Board of Directors of the Canadian Evaluation
Society
Congratulations also to Wendy Young for her election to the Board of
Directors of the Canadian Evaluation Society. Wendy is a doctoral student
in the Department's Outcomes and Evaluation stream.
Shabbir Alibhai shares Kaufman Prize
Shabbir Alibhai, MSc student in the Clinical Epidemiology stream of
the Department of Health Administration, shared the Kaufman Prize at the
Annual Scientific Meeting for the Canadian Geriatrics Society held in
Edmonton, Alberta in October.
The prize is awarded for the best research paper presented by a
trainee in geriatrics.
Shabbir is supervised by Professor Gary Naglie.
