Two New Courses Approved by SGS

The following two courses have recently received approval by the School of Graduate Studies.

Introduction to Qualitative Methods in Health Services Research

Instructor: Nora Jacobson, PhD

Offered: January 2005

This online course will provide an introduction to the use of qualitative methods in health services/policy research. Through reading, writing, experiential exercises, and both chat room discussions and message board postings, students will explore the universe of qualitative methodologies and methods, discovering their utility for framing and answering questions in health services/policy research. Single modules will be devoted to data analysis, study design, proposal writing, critical appraisal, and research ethics.

Performance Measurement in Health Services Research

Instructor: Patty Lindsay, PhD

Offered: September 2005

This is an elective course for students in graduate research programs who wish to gain a better understanding of performance measurement in health care and the methods available to develop performance measurement systems and specific indicators of performance. The course will provide an overview of different models for performance measurement, indicator development strategies and a discussion of issues specific to several stakeholder groups. This course will also be available for all students enrolled in the Ontario Training Centre Collaborative in Health Services and Policy Research, and will directly address both research and policy competency components. Students working in other public sectors such as education may also find the course useful.
