Virginia Flintoft Provides Nursing Perspective on Patient Safety
Virginia Flintoft, RN and Project Coordinator of the Canadian Adverse
Events Study, was interviewed in the September issue of The Standard, the
magazine of the College of Nurses of Ontario . Nurses played a role in
carrying out the study by screening patient charts. According to Flintoft,
nurses have a very clear understanding of the continuum of care and their
ability to see the big picture was helpful in the chart review process.
Based on study findings, Flintoft emphasized the importance of creating
an organizational climate that encourages the open communication of adverse
events. The Canadian Adverse Events Study was led by Dr.
Ross Baker, Professor in HPME, and Dr. Peter Norton, of the University
of Calgary. |
